Planning your studies overseas is more than just getting a university offer. You will need to confirm your course, get a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, prepare your financial evidence, and complete any required health or identity checks before you apply for a UK student visa from Nepal.

The official name of the immigration route is the UK Student visa,  but students often search for a UK study visa for Nepalese students. Requirements and fees are subject to change, and applicants should check for updates prior to submitting an application.

Is the UK Student Visa the Right Route?

You can apply for a UK Student visa if you are 16 or over and have been offered a place on an eligible course by a licensed student sponsor. Your education provider will give you a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which you will need to quote on your visa application.  You can apply for the visa up to six months from the date your CAS is issued. Other eligibility requirements, such as English-language and financial requirements, may also apply.

UK Student Visa Checklist for Nepali Students

The exact UK student visa documents required depend on your course and circumstances. The following checklist covers the main areas most applicants should review.

Requirement

What to prepare

Passport

A current passport or valid travel document

CAS

The Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies reference number issued by your licensed student sponsor

Financial evidence

Evidence that you can pay your course fees and meet the applicable living-cost requirements, unless an exemption applies

English ability

Evidence that you meet the required level of English through an accepted qualification, an approved English test or an assessment permitted under the Student visa rules

TB test certificate

A valid tuberculosis test certificate from an approved clinic, where required

ATAS certificate

A valid ATAS certificate if your course, subject area and nationality require one

Financial Sponsor consent

Written consent from your official financial sponsor if it paid your course fees and living costs within the previous 12 months

Under-18 documents

Written parental or legal guardian consent and evidence of the relationship, where applicable

Applicants must have a valid passport or other travel document and a CAS from their licensed student sponsor. Depending on their circumstances, they may also need to provide evidence of finances, proof of ability in English, a certificate of a TB test, ATAS approval, the consent of a financial sponsor, or documents relating to being under 18

How Much Money Do You Need?

The UK student visa requirements include having enough money for any outstanding course fees shown on your CAS and the applicable living-cost amount

As of August 2026, the maintenance requirement is:

Study location

Required living funds

London

£1,529 per month for up to nine months

Outside London

£1,171 per month for up to nine months

Where financial evidence is required, the funds will normally need to have been held for a minimum period of 28 consecutive days. That 28-day period ends no later than 31 days after the date of application for the visa.

Do not calculate the required funds using tuition fees listed on a general university webpage. Add the relevant maintenance requirement to the outstanding course fees shown on your CAS.

Do Nepalese Students Need a TB Test?

Students applying to come to the UK for six months or longer generally need a tuberculosis test if both of the following apply:

  • they have lived in Nepal or another listed country for at least six months; and

  • they were living in Nepal or another listed country within the six months before submitting the visa application.

The test must be completed at a clinic approved by the UK Home Office. A certificate from a clinic that has not been approved will not be accepted.

Approved testing locations in Nepal currently include:

  • The IOM Resettlement Health Assessment Centre in Jhapa

  • The IOM Migration Health Assessment Centre in Kathmandu

  • Norvic International Hospital and Medical College in Kathmandu

Applicants should check the current GOV.UK  clinic list and book an appointment directly with an approved centre . Click here

What English Evidence Is Required?

Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and listen in English. The normal requirement is equivalent to CEFR level B2 for degree-level study and B1 for study below degree level.

An eligible higher education institution can assess English ability for degree-level study. Other applicants may need an approved Secure English Language Test or other accepted form of evidence.

When Should You Apply?

If you are applying from outside the UK, you can apply up to six months before the start date of the course. Applicants complete the online form and then must authenticate their identity by following instructions (this could be the UK Immigration: ID Check app or an appointment at a visa application centre.

Decisions are usually made within three weeks of application. An application may take longer if documents need to be verified, an interview is required or the case is complex. If you are successful, you will receive an eVisa, and you will need to create a UKVI account to see your immigration status.

Final Checks Before Submission

Be consistent with your name, course details, financials and supporting documents when you apply for your UK student visa. Ensure your CAS details are correct, your financial evidence is within the date rules, and your TB certificate is valid at the time you apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply without receiving my CAS?

No. You need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number from a licensed student sponsor before submitting a Student visa application. The CAS number must be entered in the application, and the visa application must be made within six months of receiving it.

Can Nepalese students bring dependants to the UK?

Most students on taught courses cannot bring dependants. A partner or child may generally apply as a dependant when the main applicant is either:

  • a government-sponsored student starting a course lasting longer than six months; or

  • a full-time student on a postgraduate course at RQF level 7 or above lasting at least nine months.

For postgraduate courses starting on or after 1 January 2024, the course must be a PhD, another doctorate or a research-based higher degree.

How early can I apply from Nepal?

You can apply up to six months before your course start date, but you must first receive your CAS and apply within six months of its issue.

Does a UK Student visa allow part-time work?

Some students may work but the number of hours allowed and the conditions are dependent upon the course and visa conditions. Before you accept work, check the conditions in your immigration decision and eVisa.
